Upside-Down Lotus

Don’t try this standing on your head, unless you can first do Lotus comfortably seated. The next step is to be able to do headstand comfortably and securely. Then, you are ready to attempt this more difficult posture of Upside-Down Lotus.

First steady yourself into headstand. Bring one leg down at a time and cross against opposite thigh. Obviously, you will not be able to use your hands to lift your legs into lotus, so your thighs need to be quite open and your ankles loose so that there is no strain to get into lotus upside down. It sometimes takes years for the body to open in such a way to make this pose easy and enjoyable. Don’t rush. I am most likely older than you. It took me years! Breathe deeply. If you are not able yet to do this pose, visualize yourself coming into this pose.

Remember, the first step of every yoga pose is: Visualization.
